I was born and raised in Yorkshire, England but, after marrying into a family of Cape Ann painters in 1986, it became a case of immerse myself in American art or get left behind. Having taken art lessons from my late father-in-law, Roger W. Curtis (American, 1910-2000) it quickly became obvious that I might be good at the theory, but my hand/eye coordination was sadly lacking. My husband, artist and art teacher David P. Curtis (American, 1950—) tried his best to continue my art education, but it was a bit like teaching your wife to drive; sounds like a good idea, but it wreaks havoc on the nerves! Now, thirty years later, I am still pretty hopeless at painting, but I'm really good at writing about it.

Below are some of David's paintings from North Yorkshire where David and I, plus our two young sons, Noah and Sam, lived for fifteen months during 1991-92. It is a beautiful area, and David did a fine job of capturing the summer light and intoxicating air of my home, which I still miss after all these years.

In future pages, I will be writing about Cape Ann artists, the Boston School, and American Impressionism, so I hope you will look in again to see what's going on.

In the meantime, you can also follow David and I, and our friend artist and psychologist Lorwen 'Connie' Nagle by listening to our podcast  at https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-5hjx2-8f5e1b
